About the role

This role is all about improving the experience for anyone who visits or lives near the London waterways. You’ll help maintain, conserve and improve the waterway network – handling everything from litter collection and water level control to the care and operation of locks. We’ll also look to you to help visitors with any problems or questions they may have. Succeed, and you’ll create a safe, secure and vibrant waterway network where visitors are delighted with the quality of their experience. The demands of this role mean that you’ll be required to work any five days out of seven, including statutory holidays.

About you

While a background in either agriculture or construction would help, it’s not essential. We’re far more interested in your proactive approach and readiness to try your hand at a wide variety of tasks and challenges. You’ll need to be literate and numerate too, with a friendly approach and an understanding of the value of delivering great customer service. A valid driving licence is also a must.

About us

One of the UK’s biggest charities, we maintain 2,000 miles of historic canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs, along with museums, archives and the country’s third largest collection of protected historic buildings – preserving them for future generations. Our mission is to have by 2020 a thriving, sustainable waterway network cherished by a public that shares a deep sense of responsibility for its wellbeing. Achieving this will be a fascinating challenge. Come and be part of it.
