Job Description

The Department of Psychological Sciences is seeking to appoint a fixed term 0.8FTE part-time lecturer to commence 1st October 2015 for one year. This Post will cover the teaching responsibilities of Professor Ulrike Hahn over this period. The successful applicant will be required to teach in the specific areas of human reasoning, decision making and cognitive modelling and to provide project supervision for final year UG students.

There will be opportunities for active involvement in research in these areas as the post-holder will be part of the Reasoning and Argumentation Lab (ReAL) in the Centre for Cognitive and Computational Modelling (CCCM). The post is ideally suited to someone just finishing their PhD, who wants to acquire some teaching experience and to write up papers emanating from their PhD research.

The Department of Psychological Sciences is a centre of vibrant research and teaching whose history can be traced to the beginnings of the scientific study of the subject in the UK over a century ago.

Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate will:

  • be educated to degree level or equivalent and it is desirable for you to have a PhD.
  • have experience in teaching psychology in an academic setting.
  • have the ability to teach and engage students in learning.
  • have an emerging track record of conducting and publishing psychology research in psychology.

Further Information

Salary: £28,274 per annum inclusive of London Allowance

This is a part-time post for 1 year. The full time equivalent salary is £35,343 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Birkbeck also provides a generous defined benefit pension scheme, 31 days paid leave, flexible working arrangements and other great benefits.
