India Policy Officer (02316)

Category: Jobs | Department: International Unit | Location: London | Post Type: Full Time | Closing Date: 16 Sep 2016 | Universities UK International (UUKi, formerly UK Higher Education International Unit) represents UK universities internationally and helps them meet their international aims. Our work centres around actively promoting UK universities abroad, providing trusted information, and creating new opportunities through our ability to act at sector level. We draw on UK university expertise to influence policy in the UK and overseas, and deliver information, advice and guidance to overseas governments and sector bodies, as well as to our own universities, to enable collaboration with the broadest possible range of international partners for mutual benefit.

This is an exciting opportunity to support the work of UUKi as a member of the Policy team, driving our work with India – a priority country – and with a particular focus on steering the higher education strands of the UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) initiative as a member of the programme management team. UKIERI is a major bilateral Government initiative designed to strengthen the relationship between the two countries in education, research and innovation, currently entering its third five-year phase. The Secretariat team will be led by the British Council in India with UK participation from the Association of Colleges and Universities UK International.

The successful candidate will have strong research, analytical and writing skills, excellent interpersonal and team working abilities – including a capacity to build relationships with people and organisations, both in person and at distance, in order to influence. Evidence of resilience in the face of operational challenges, problem-solving skills, and the ability to plan and coordinate work in order to deliver on programme objectives, are desirable qualities for this post. A solid grasp of project management principles and knowledge of the UK and/or Indian higher education systems would also be advantageous.
