Hospitality Assistant

The Role

You will ensure the provision of a high quality catering / hospitality service, serving hot and cold meals, beverages and snacks at our locations, adhering to portion control and presentation standards.

This is a fixed term, part time position.

The Person

As Hospitality Assistant you will:

  • Develop and maintain a constant and pro-active approach to customer care. Serve hot and cold meals, beverages and snacks at catering/hospitality locations, adhering to portion control and presentation standards.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of all areas in which hospitality services are provided and ensure the cleanliness of all equipment and utensils.
  • Assist with the preparation of hospitality venues or dining rooms for service; stocking of glassware, crockery, cutlery, condiments and disposable ware. Be flexible in approach to work/working hours.

The Department

Kent Hospitality provides housekeeping, catering, bar and reception services and has a sales turnover in excess of £40m. We manage student accommodation throughout the University’s Canterbury and Medway campuses for over 6,500 students and in vacation periods operate a thriving conference and events business. Plans foradditional facilities at the Canterbury and Medway campuses over the next couple of years will generate further growth for the department.

Having been continuously recognised as an Investors in People (IiP) organisation since 1999, Kent Hospitality was awarded IiP Gold status in March 2010 and March 2013. Following reassessment in April 2016, the department has been reaccredited with IiP Gold status.

Other achievements include winning the category ‘Best University Accommodation for Groups’ for nine consecutive years at the Group Travel Awards (most recently in June 2016); our campus accommodation being awarded a three-five star rating by VisitEngland and our catering team being joint winner of the award for Best Catering Service at the 2013 CUBO Awards.

The senior management team comprises the Head Housekeeper, Business Accountant, Head of Trading, Accommodation Manager, Human Resources Manager, Communications and Marketing Manager and Head of Residences and Conference Services, all of whom report to the Director of Commercial Services.
