Policy Officer (HEW00618)

Policy Officer, Wales, 0.8 WTE (4 days a week or 5 shorter days)

Working in Cardiff, the post holder will be the main member of staff for the Council of Deans of Health Wales, working closely with Welsh members and with colleagues based in our London office.

As our only member of staff in Wales, we are looking for a confident Policy Officer with initiative, energy and great interpersonal skills. The post holder will lead the Council’s work in Wales including stakeholder engagement, member liaison and meeting organisation as well as policy work across a range of health professional education and research issues.

Our policy officer in Wales is required to travel to the Council of Deans of Health’s headquarters based in London on a monthly basis, including an overnight stay.

The role comes with generous terms and conditions, including 27 days annual leave (pro-rata).

The Council of Deans of Health is the representative voice of the UK university health faculties engaged in education and research for nursing, midwifery and the allied health professions. At any one time, our members are educating more than 100,000 future health professionals, as well as supporting existing staff in their professional development and carrying out research into some of health and social care’s most pressing problems.

We are offering an exciting opportunity to join the Council’s policy team as a Policy Officer. This role is ideal for someone looking to develop a career in health or higher education policy as our policy officer will gain experience in writing and analysis, event and meeting support and public affairs.

The role will include policy work on a wide range of health professional education and research issues, as well as event organisation, data work and membership liaison.

Policy Researcher (UUK00418)

The Policy Group within Universities UK is looking for a Policy Researcher with strong research and analytic skills, very good communication and writing skills. They will have a strong interest in public policy. The post holder will work with the Director of Policy and other colleagues in a high performing and influential directorate, on agreed policy programmes and projects.

Among other duties, the successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out original policy research and analysis to inform policy development as well as analysing and advising on the implications of higher education policies developed in other quarters. The post holder will be able to analyse complex information and plan and implement policy research and development as well as present complex issues in a simple and straightforward manner.

The Policy Group

The Policy Group within Universities UK (UUK) is responsible for developing and delivering a programme of policy and research activities which shapes the environment for higher education in the UK. The group carries out research and analysis to strengthen the evidence base for policy making and to provide advice and make informed contributions to critical issues. The group develops policy options which support the strength and health of the UK HE sector and is responsible for developing and delivering major programmes of change within higher education.

You will carry out first line fixes when there are maintenance issues, coordinate with contractors on site, mid-day janitor rounds of the rest room facilities and common areas topping up supplies and spot cleaning, porter duties including furniture moves and setting up meeting rooms and supporting other team members across the Operations Group.

Following training if required you will carry out routine testing, include portable appliance testing and keep full records. Our ideal candidate is someone who has worked previously in a customer focussed role, is flexible, a good deal player and is willing to learn.

There will be a requirement for administration and record keeping as part of this role.

 

 

India Policy Officer (02316)

The successful candidate will have strong research, analytical and writing skills, excellent interpersonal and team working abilities – including a capacity to build relationships with people and organisations, both in person and at distance, in order to influence. Evidence of resilience in the face of operational challenges, problem-solving skills, and the ability to plan and coordinate work in order to deliver on programme objectives, are desirable qualities for this post. A solid grasp of project management principles and knowledge of the UK and/or Indian higher education systems would also be advantageous.
