City Cofounder

Pollinate Energy is excited to open applications for an incredibly unique opportunity. If successful, you will come to India and help Pollinate expand into a new city – a new city cofounded by you!

Why become a Pollinate Energy City Cofounder?

Pollinate Energy is a not-for-profit social business focused on improving the lives of India’s urban poor. We started by selling one product – solar lights – in urban slums. We quickly learnt that, through the reach of our Pollinators, we could provide additional products like water filters and smoke reducing cookstoves that dramatically change the lives of people living in India’s urban slums.

We have reached 500 urban slums in Bangalore, have kickstarted a move into Hyderabad, and now we want to reach people living in cities all across India.

To do this we need you.

We are looking for the most passionate and capable budding entrepreneurs from across the world to expand our operations across new Indian cities.

Start an enterprise with long lasting sustainable impact

Starting Pollinate Energy’s operations in a new city is the start of a business that will change the lives of thousands of people in that region. Every day you will have a chance to meet and learn about the lives of people living in India’s urban slums while creating operations to best serve them. From providing lights to their children to study and attend school, to running behavioural change programs to teach families to use efficient cookstoves, you will witness the impact of your work every day.

Become a social entrepreneur

As a City Co-founder you will go on the wild ride of setting up the operations of a social enterprise serving the bottom of the pyramid. We will provide all the training, systems and support you need to expand Pollinate Energy’s operations to new cities.

What you will do as a city cofounder

The role is extremely varied.
You will:

  • Run your own business: managing operations, finances and people
Recruit, train and manage local Pollinators (our local Indian micro entrepreneurs)
  • Locate and survey slum communities in new cities
  • Run Pollinate Energy’s International Fellowship and Young Professionals Programs

What we are looking for

We are seeking early career professionals who want to volunteer their time for ONE YEAR to be full-time City Co-founders and have a lasting impact on the lives of people living in urban slums in India.

Specifically we are looking for people with:

  • 3+ years experience working for a Business, NGO or start up
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a start-up environment
  • Ability to run and manage projects and programs autonomously
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Very strong organisational and planning skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills and experience executing difficult management tasks
  • Willingness to work closely with disadvantaged communities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Passion for social business, renewable energy and dedication to transform the lives of the poor
  • Fluent in written and spoken English

Requirements
A fundraising target of AUD5,000-15,000.

Benefits
We will cover all in country expenses including insurance while you are with our team in India. City Cofounders are to cover flights and entry visas to India for the year. Visa cost varies dependent upon country of origin approximately $250USD.
