The Vice Chancellors Office within UWE is seeking to appoint an Executive Support Assistant to provide professional, proactive and efficient support for members of the Directorate.

The main duties and responsibilities include:

  • To provide a proactive executive support service including active diary management, organisation and administration of meetings and functions, receiving visitors, screening telephone calls, enquiries and requests.
  • To deliver an excellent customer service, ensuring that the University’s reputation is maintained and enhanced, that issues are referred appropriately and that sensitive and confidential matters are dealt with in a responsive and appropriate manner.
  • To deal with incoming communication in a timely manner with diplomacy, tact and discretion, determining which requires the personal attention of members of the Directorate, drafting responses and taking other appropriate follow up actions as required.

Key selection criteria:

You will have:

  • A wide range of administrative experience in a professional office environment, preferably a customer related environment.
  • Experience of taking minutes at meetings and working with confidential information.
  • Good IT skills, with experience of email, MS Office Word Excel, PowerPoint and data base systems with experience of manipulating data to produce basic reports.
  • Experience of working for more than one person.

About the role

There are 3 Primary Programme Leaders within the Department of Initial Teacher Education who lead a team of committed staff who together with our partner schools offer some of the best teacher education in the country and are at the forefront of developments in school led teacher education. Programme Leaders carry responsibilities for a core PGCE programme and also work in collaboration with partner schools in delivering School Direct, Teach First, Troops to Teachers, SCITTs and Assessment Only programmes.  We also are committed to bringing together some of the best of educational research with practical teacher training and experience.  Specific responsibilities will be determined following this appointment.

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake research and scholarly activity within their field as well as make an active contribution to the range of other work and responsibilities carried out by tutors working within the department. The post holder will work with the Head of Department to ensure the University’s strategic goals are implemented.

Dr Bing Hu at Peninsula Dental School is seeking an experienced Technical Specialist for helping manage his research lab and coordinate internal and external collaborations.

You will manage and support the facilities of Dr Bing Hu’s group and administrate the routine research works. You will be responsible for maintenance of laboratory equipment, bookkeeping and inventory management. Furthermore the Technical Specialist will assist with project management and grant applications. You will be responsible for the training of PhD students, Research Associates and external users of the facility in lab techniques and procedures.

You should have:

-       Postgraduate degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Developmental Biology, or in a similar biological science.

-       Demonstrable experience in a similar role;

-       Be proficient in a wide range of laboratory techniques including cell culture, RNA, DNA and protein analysis etc.

The post will be based at the John Bull Building on the Northern Campus site in Plymouth and will be a Plymouth University appointment. 

This is a part time position working 22.2 hours per week on a fixed-term basis for 2 years, starting from 1st November, 2014.

Forest Campaigner

EIA has been at the forefront of efforts to combat environmental crime since 1984. The Forest Campaign has been a major part of EIA’s work since 1999, and seeks to reduce global deforestation by improving forest governance in producer countries and implemented demand side controls in major consumer markets.

To achieve these aims, EIA conducts research, investigations and lobbying activities designed to curb illegal logging and the trade in illicit timber by closing markets to imports of illegally sourced timber and wood products. To successfully implement campaign strategies, the organisation requires a full time Forest Campaigner.

Main purpose of position

Formulating, planning and executing campaign goals and, if relevant, field investigations for EIA as identified by the Forest Campaign Strategy will be required, carried out in close cooperation with EIA’s experienced UK-based Forest Team.

Organisational matters

This position will be line managed by the Forest Team Leader and will report on activities to the Team Leader and Senior Forest Campaigner.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with EIA’s foreign partner organisations, as directed
• Assist in both internal and external report and briefing writing and production as required
• Produce written reports of trips and meetings
• Assist in campaign related research as directed
• Participate in research and investigative activities with senior staff as required.
• Assist in monitoring both producer country timber flows and the European Union Timber Regulation (EUTR)
• Identify investigative opportunities within the goals of the Forest campaign strategy
• Safely undertake on-site investigations in conjunction with EIA campaigns staff if required
• Provide a full written report of all field trips
• Log all tapes (including interview transcripts) and stills acquired during field investigations
• Make recommendations and review the use of field equipment that would improve efficiency and productivity of investigations

Job Purpose:
