The CTSU is one of the world’s leading centres for population-based research into the causes, prevention and treatment of common chronic diseases (such as heart disease and cancer). We are seeking an analyst/programmer to join the team responsible for various projects including the major international clinical trial HPS3-REVEAL and the UK Biobank Study. You will primarily use C++Builder and other C/C++ compilers and will be working extensively to integrate data from a variety of new sources – including national registries – into the study databases.You will have the opportunity to follow applications through the full product life cycle, working under the overall direction of a senior programmer and within a small, friendly team.

You should be a graduate with strong experience in at least one of the following: C++Builder, C/C++, JAVA, Delphi (or other databases or 3GLs) and excellent communication skills.  In addition, it would be advantageous to have experience with databases, ‘visual’ programming tools, MS-Office and in web-based development.

In return, we offer 30 days annual leave, a competitive salary and a final salary pension scheme. Please note that final appointment will be subject to pre-employment screening.

Your working pattern will be 09:00 – 17:00 on Wednesday and Thursday, 10:00 – 18:00 on Friday.

Our ideal candidate will be an excellent team player with experience and a proven ability to work proactively. They will be well organised and adaptable, and will possess excellent communication, organisational, inter-personal and customer service skills.

A unique position is available for a highly motivated psychologist/computational neuroscientist who has proven experience in the ability to integrate into a team of scientists and clinicians developing new methods to study the cognitive difficulties experienced by patients with epilepsy.

The primary aim of the project is to help in the design, development and application of a new battery of cognitive tests that can be rapidly applied to patients with epilepsy and to then formulate these into a web/computer-based application. The aim is eventually to deploy this tool across Specialty Epilepsy Clinics in the UK.

Candidates should have a background in either Psychology, Neuroscience or Computational Neuroscience. A track record of experience in computer programming, sound knowledge of experimental design and using SPSS for statistical analysis is essential. Ability to integrate with multi-disciplinary medical teams and to work independently are also desirable.
